If you manage land in the watershed, first, thank you for your efforts to care for the Watershed. There are many resources available to help people learn how to reduce summer drought impacts at different scales. For example:
-
Agriculture Irrigation- Scheduling Calculator
-
Check out the Linked Initiatives to stay informed on all the work being done in the Koksilah.
-
If you are a steward of a shoreline or riverbank, thank you! Learn about the important role that riparian areas play in protecting fish from the impacts of flooding and drought and consider restoring what you can.
-
Work to Understand. Did you know that in 2021, Cowichan Tribes finally completed very important scientific analysis to get imagery of the Koksilah riverbed that was as good as what we have of the surface of Mars? Environmental research has been very underfunded, and much was unknown until recently. The good news is that this watershed is attracting a lot of research to catch-up.
